What is Glamping?

To put it simply, glamping is a glamorous way of camping. It is the perfect accommodations for both camping enthusiasts and luxurious travelers. It is also a wonderful way to immerse yourself in nature while still enjoying the comforts of home, such as a king-sized bed and air conditioning.

There are so many ways to go glamping around the world. You can stay in a safari tent, tipi, treehouse, yurt, bubble dome, airstream, a Conestoga Covered Wagon, and more.

Glamping is so much fun for both first-time and experienced campers. In fact, now that we have experienced glamping, I am not sure we can ever go camping again because glamping is so luxuriant.

What is a Conestoga Covered Wagon?

Two Conestoga Covered Wagons tucked away at The Silver Spur Resort in Canton, Texas.

During the 18th and 19th centuries, a Conestoga Covered Wagon was a specific type of wagon drawn by a large mammal (such as an ox) and used to transport goods across the country. Today, a Conestoga Covered Wagon is a unique accommodation of glamping. With that said, the wagons are so authentic that I bet if you strapped an ox to the wagon, you would be well on your way!

These nostalgic wagons are making a comeback to become timeless pieces of luxury accommodations. In doing so, the Conestoga Covered Wagons are special because it provides guests a remarkable feeling of traveling back in time to the Old West while enjoying today’s modern amenities.

Staying in a Conestoga Covered Wagon has been made possible by a company none other than the Conestoga Wagon Co. The craftsmen at Conestoga Wagon Co. take great pride in their craft by building each wagon by hand.

The Conestoga Wagon Co has quickly made an impact on bringing glamping on the map. You can find Conestoga Covered Wagons in over 20 states. Additionally, the company also provides another glamping option to stay in luxurious deluxe and safari tents.

Silver Spur Resort’s Conestoga Covered Wagons

A glamping campsite filled with Conestoga Covered Wagons at Silver Spur Resort tucked away in the woods with a sign that says "Wagon Junction"

The Conestoga Covered Wagons at The Silver Spur Resort is a unique place to stay in Texas. There are four covered wagons tucked away on the outskirts of the property with its own amenities and a community bathroom.

Each wagon has its own picnic table and charcoal barbecue next to the woods or pond for the perfect morning coffee or afternoon BBQ. As a whole, the Conestoga Covered Wagon grounds has a group site equipped with a firepit, backyard games, and CLEAN community bathrooms.

Whether you are staying at the Conestoga Covered Wagons for a romantic getaway or family vacation, there are fun backyard games in the Wagon Junction to enjoy. There is a perfect jail photo op, a rubber tire horse swing, bucket ball, corn hole, and more.

The community bathrooms are just a few steps away from the covered wagons. There are two full bathrooms with a walk-in shower, sink, and toilet. These bathrooms are ONLY for covered wagons guests.

Inside of a Conestoga Covered Wagon

On the outside, the wagons are nostalgic, but the inside is oh so glamorous! Honestly, every day I woke up in the covered wagon, I would say, “wow.”

The water-resistant double-layered canvas dome is absolutely stunning. The canvas dome is so authentic with a pioneer spirit that you completely feel like you are in the Wild Wild West.

Yes, the wagons look big on the outside, but you cannot truly fathom their overall size until you walk inside. The wagons have 180 square feet of floor space with an interior height of 8.5 feet.

Each covered wagon has a king-sized bed and either one or two sets of bunk beds to accommodate up to four or six guests. A wagon with one bunk bed also has a small table with chairs.

You may think that a king-sized bed, bunk bed, and a table with chairs would be cramped, but the wagons are actually VERY spacious. We were even able to fit a pack-n-play in our one bunk bed Conestoga Covered Wagon!

Additionally, there is a small coffee maker, electrical outlets, two nightstands, and a nook for towels.

Most importantly, the wagons are fully climate-controlled. In the summer, you can blast the air conditioning, and in the winter, you can turn on the heat.

The Escape Room

The Silver Spur Resort has two escape rooms that really test your out-of-box thinking! I challenge you to escape one room during your stay!

An escape room is an immersive real-life game that takes players on a mission to solve clues and “escape” the room in a specific amount of time. The escape rooms are typically themed and range in levels of difficulty.

The two themed escape rooms at The Silver Spur Resort are The Apocalypse Room and The Treasure Hunter Room.

The Treasure Hunter Room is widely fun and best suited for those playing for the first time or have younger children. The Apocalypse Room is a very challenging room that can give even the best escape artists a run for their money!

Each room is exceptionally decorated to fit its theme. The “cave” in The Treasure Hunter Room truly feels like you are underground, and The Apocalypse Room resembles a mad-scientist room.

Which room will you choose to escape?

Dining at The Silver Spur Resort

There is so much to love about The Silver Spur Resort, and the cuisine is one of them! On-site is the delicious Q & Brew restaurant with finger-licking barbecue and craft beer made in-house. In addition, there is a special dining experience called the Chuckwagon Dinner that you cannot miss!

Q & Brew Restaurant

The Q & Brew has the BEST BBQ and the first brewery in Canton. Everything screams TEXAS at The Q & Brew – from the authentic Texas smokehouse-style BBQ to the Texas craft beers, a selection of Texas wines, and the complimentary Cowboy beans.

The Food

A skillet of Mac-n-cheese loaded with chopped brisket on top from the Q & Brew Restaurant.

As soon as you sit down, the servers bring a complimentary serving of freshly baked cornbread with honey and hot cowboy beans. It is the perfect way to start your meal and entice your taste buds.

Brisket and Texas-style pulled pork are the stars of the show at Q & Brew. Whatever you order, make sure you have either the brisket or pulled pork – heck, I recommend you try both!

Enjoy the tender brisket or juicy pulled pork on its own, in a signature sandwich, stuffed in a taco, or mounted on mac-n-cheese. One bite and you will be in a BBQ bliss.

Must order: Cowboy Stuffers (stuffed jalapeños with cream cheese and brisket wrapped in smoked bacon and fried in panko), Brisket Blacksmith Tacos, and Skillet Mac & Cheese with Brisket.

The Craft Beer

A beer flight of four glasses on a wooden platter with the Texas flag in the background from The Q & Brew.

To pair your BBQ, I recommend a cold pint of beer. To figure out what beer best suits you, I highly recommend you order a beer flight.

The craft beer at The Q & Brew is constantly changing as the brewmaster enjoys experimenting with new flavors and styles. A few beers that have been on tap include a Bavarian Hefeweizen, a Mexican Stout, a Peach Wheat, and a West Coast IPA.

The Chuckwagon Dinner

To complete your unique stay at The Silver Spur Resort’s Conestoga Covered Wagon, enjoy a cowboy dining experience called, The Chuckwagon Dinner.

A Chuckwagon Dinner at The Silver Spur Resort.

A chuckwagon was originally used to carry food and cooking equipment on the prairies of North America. En-route, the ranchers would make a fire at night and cook over the open flame from the supplies and food in the chuckwagon.

Today, a Chuckwagon Dinner is a special culinary experience that is inspired by the Old Western traditions. At The Silver Spur Resort, guests are invited to their open-air buffet with yard games, a live concert, and some good old-fashioned fun.

A platter of potato salad, corn on the cob, biscuit, ribs, chicken leg, and a bowl of beans from the Chuckwagon Dinner at The Silver Spur Resort.

The Chuckwagon Dinner includes slow-cooked chicken and ribs, potato salad, corn on the cob, fresh biscuits, and cowboy beans and peach cobbler cooked in a Dutch oven over a campfire.

The Chuckwagon Dinner is only available on the weekend of Canton’s First Monday Trade Days. So make sure you coordinate your stay at the Conestoga Covered Wagon with a Chuckwagon Dinner.
