Pearland may be just south of Houston, but it’s bursting with fun for all ages. Packed with outdoor adventures, cultural gems, and delicious eats, we’ve discovered the best things to do in Pearland for a PEARfect weekend getaway for families.

From visiting a beautiful temple to bringing your coloring pages to life, hiking scenic trails with optimal birding, finding the coolest Pokémon mural, a family-friendly brewery, and so much more—Pearland has something for everyone. It’s a city that blends relaxation, culture, and kid-approved fun all in one place.

So whether you’re a Houston-area local searching for new places to explore or want an easy, kid-friendly getaway, Pearland offers plenty of activities and restaurants to keep everyone entertained.

To help you make the most of your visit, I’ve put together this family-friendly guide featuring the best things to do in Pearland and places to eat, all based on our sweet adventures exploring the city.

Full disclaimer –  I was invited by Visit Pearland to feature the city. As always, my opinions are non-biased and my own. I want to thank everyone for following and supporting us on all of “Our Sweet Adventures.”

Things to Do in Pearland

Pearland is full of exciting attractions that appeal to kids and adults alike. From wildlife adventures to unique local experiences, these activities are sure to make your visit memorable—they certainly did for my family!

Visit the Sri Meenakshi Temple

The façade of Sri Meenakshi Temple—visiting the temple is one of the best things to do in Pearland, Texas.
The façade of Sri Meenakshi Temple

The Sri Meenakshi Temple is a cultural treasure in Pearland—and the only temple outside of India dedicated to Meenakshi, the Hindu goddess of marriage.

This stunning temple welcomes visitors of all backgrounds to embrace and experience its rich traditions. You’re free to explore the beautiful grounds and step inside the temple itself. If you would like to learn more about its history and significance, you can go on a self-guided tour for a more meaningful visit.

We were lucky enough to witness a special Abhishekam ceremony, a sacred ritual performed to bring prosperity and blessings to everyone. It was a peaceful and memorable experience, and we even received a blessing ourselves.

Be sure to dress modestly, covering your shoulders and knees, and to remove your shoes before entering the temple out of respect for its traditions.

Find Feathered Friends

Pearland is a hidden gem for bird enthusiasts as it is home to hundreds of species year-round, making it one of the best places to birdwatch for both seasoned birders and curious beginners. During our visit, we would be driving around looking for the city’s famous pear statues and suddenly spot egrets gliding gracefully alongside our car.

That said, one of the best spots for incredible bird sightings in Pearland is at the John Hargrove Environmental Complex—an 87-acre sanctuary perfect for connecting with nature. The area features two large ponds with rookery nesting islands, wetlands, and a scenic two-mile trail that wraps around the water. Here, you can see egrets, herons, roseate spoonbills, and countless other species throughout the seasons.

Get Wild at the Nature Center

Surprisingly, one of the best (and free!) things to do in Pearland with kids is a visit to the Delores Fenwick Nature Center. Inside, kids can get up close to animals like a baby alligator, snakes, and turtles while learning about local wildlife in a fun and interactive way.

The biggest hit for my kids was the “bring your coloring to life” activity. They colored frogs, turtles, otters, and fish. Then, they scanned their creations and watched them magically appear on a big screen filled with sea creatures.

Beyond that, the center has engaging exhibits designed to spark curiosity. Kids can measure their wingspan, build birds, weigh pinecones, and explore a nature-themed toddler play corner.

Be sure to check their Facebook page for weekly events and educational programs that are fun for all ages!

Play Japanese Arcade Games

If your kids (or inner kid) love games, Okashi Japanese Arcade is easily one of the best things to do in Pearland. This vibrant arcade brings a taste of Japan to Pearland with over 40 authentic Japanese arcade machines and claw games that will keep the whole family entertained for hours.

From racing games to unique rhythmic games and quirky Japanese machines, it’s a lively and immersive experience that you can only find right here in Pearland!

Enjoy a Purrfect Afternoon

Lone Star Pawz CATfé is a cozy, family-friendly place to relax, sip on an iced coffee, buy some cute cat merch, and spend time with adorable cats. In the cat lounge, you can hang out with the permanent feline residents while enjoying board games, finishing a puzzle, or coloring with the kids.

Then, you can step inside the cat cave, where you get to cuddle and play with cats that are up for adoption. These sweet furballs are looking for their forever homes, and it’s nearly impossible not to fall in love with each one.

Whether you leave with a new furry friend or enjoy some quality time with the cats, it’s an experience that is refreshingly therapeutic that you cannot miss.

Find Your Next Favorite Read

Looking for your next favorite book or a cozy spot to spend the morning? Then head to LIT Java Coffee & Books—a charming local favorite where you can sip your morning coffee, flip through a good book, and let the kids explore a playful, welcoming space.

LIT Java Coffee & Books offers a great selection of children’s books, banned books, local author titles, and a dedicated kids’ area filled with crafts, activities, and toys. If you’re a coffee lover, this is one of the best places in Pearland to get your caffeine fix. They have unique latte flavors like Red Velvet Mocha and Cookie Butter Latte that are as Instagram-worthy as they are delicious.

Beyond the books and coffee, LIT Bookstore is all about community. They regularly host creative events, from bedazzling book covers to lively chapter discussions and kid-friendly activity mornings.

Try a Unique Beer Flight

Quench your thirst at Vallenson’s Brewing Company, a local microbrewery known for pushing the boundaries of craft beer. While they proudly offer three flagship brews that celebrate Pearland’s rich history, the real fun is in their ever-changing lineup of bold and inventive flavors.

You might see the tap list with creations like a Blonde Ale with Peach Fruit Tea, a Gose infused with Pickle Juice and Cucumber, or even a Blonde Ale with Peanut Butter, Strawberry, and Banana—my personal favorite! Of course, if you prefer something classic, Vallenson’s has you covered with familiar options like American Light Lagers, Kölsch, IPAs, and Pilsners.

The laid-back, family-friendly atmosphere makes it a perfect spot to spend the afternoon. Bring some backyard games, toss a frisbee, sip a pint, and sample a unique beer flight while everyone enjoys the open outdoor space.

Hunt for Colorful Pear Statues

Scattered across Pearland are giant, hand-painted pear statues, each featuring a vibrant design created by local artists. These colorful pears aren’t just art—they are part of the Pear-Scape Trail, a citywide scavenger hunt!

Grab a Pear-Scape Trail map from the Pearland Convention & Visitors Bureau or download it online to track down all 23 sculptures. The more pears you find, the more prizes you can win, making it an interactive way to explore the city.

Go on a Mural Trail

Similar to the Pear-Scape Trail, the Pearland Mural Tour is a self-guided adventure that takes you to some of the most colorful walls in the city. These vibrant murals celebrate Pearland’s creativity, culture, and community spirit. They also make for perfect Instagram-worthy photo ops!

One of the highlights is the Old Town Chalk Mural. It’s the most unique mural we’ve ever seen. It’s an interactive mural that has blank spaces designed for visitors to color in themselves. So, don’t forget to pack some chalk and leave your own creative mark on Pearland!

Shop, Splash, and Play

If you’re looking for a place where shopping, dining, and family fun come together, Pearland Town Center is the spot. This open-air lifestyle center offers a mix of popular retailers, local boutiques, and plenty of great places to grab a bite.

Families will love the relaxed, walkable layout. While you browse the shops, kids can cool off at the splash pad or run around the large open lawn—perfect for burning off some energy between stops.

Two of our favorite stores to visit with kids are:

  • Bricks & Minifigs – A must-visit for LEGO lovers! You’ll find everything from rare sets and unique minifigs to bins of loose bricks where kids can build their own creations.
  • Spud’s TCG – Pearland’s very own Pokémon Center. Between the coolest Pokémon mural, the huge selection of cards, and collectible merchandise, it’s a dream stop for Pokémon trainers.

Play at a Pear-Themed Playground

One of the best things to do in Pearland with kids is to spend time at Ed Thompson Inclusive Park. This beautiful playground is thoughtfully designed so children of all abilities can play, explore, and have fun together.

The park has accessible ramps, adaptive swings, sensory panels, and plenty of interactive play features designed for kids of all abilities. Whether they’re spinning on the We-Go-Round®, soaring on the We-Go-Swing®, or bouncing on the We-Saw™, there’s no shortage of inclusive fun for everyone.

With plenty of shade, comfortable seating, and a welcoming atmosphere, it’s the perfect spot for families to relax, recharge, and let the kids burn off energy.

Jump into a Giant Ball Pit

As a born-and-raised Texan, I can confirm it always feels either too hot or too cold here. That’s why Bounce N Play is a lifesaver for families in Pearland. This indoor playground is packed with activities to keep little ones entertained for hours.

Kids can bounce on the giant jump pillow, dive into a massive ball pit, race down the keyboard slide, and explore a two-story playground filled with slides, climbing obstacles, and tunnels. There’s also an imaginative play area where kids can get creative and pretend-play to their heart’s content.

Best Places to Eat in Pearland

As a mom of three wild boys, going out to eat can be a challenge. There’s only so long they can sit still before the chaos begins.

Thankfully, Pearland is full of family-friendly restaurants where we actually got to enjoy our food. From arcade games and axe-throwing to outdoor playgrounds, here are some amazing places to eat in Pearland with kids.

Pena’s Donut Heaven & Deli

Start your morning (or treat yourself anytime) with donuts from Pena’s Donut Heaven & Deli. From classic glazed to filled brioche, croissant donuts, and sour cream donuts, everything is light, fluffy, and perfectly sweet.

For a fun twist on breakfast, try one of their signature donut sandwiches. They swap out the biscuit or bagel for a glazed donut and fill it with options like eggs and sausage, fried chicken, or even smoked brisket, onions, and pickles.

We couldn’t resist a box of donuts plus a few donut sandwiches, but Pena’s also serves breakfast plates like migas, tacos, waffles, and pancakes. For lunch, the deli menu includes street tacos, juicy burgers, sandwiches, and quesadillas. It’s a local gem that has something for everyone!

Must order: brioche donuts, croissant donut, and the Southern Chicken Donut sandwich.

Grace Pizza and Shakes

Pizza, milkshakes, and arcade games? Yes, please! Grace Pizza and Shakes serves up world-class brick-oven pizzas and over-the-top milkshakes that are as fun as they are delicious. Plus, there are a few arcade games to keep the kids entertained, too!

Grace Pizza and Shakes uses fresh, local ingredients to create some of the best pizza in Pearland. From classic sauces and toppings to bold Texas flavors like jalapeño ranch with marinated chicken, red onion, and cilantro.

Be sure to save room for dessert because their milkshakes reach new heights—literally. These Instagram-worthy creations are stacked with slices of cake, cinnamon rolls, or cookie sandwiches. And for the ultimate finishing touch, you can even add a sparkler for a lit experience (pun intended)!

Must order: Supreme Grace, The Garcia, or Sweet Perfection pizza, and your choice of an over-the-top milkshake (as cinnamon lovers, we chose Cinnamon Heaven).

KNP Social

KNP Social is one of Pearland’s most family-friendly restaurants, offering not just tasty food but also a community-focused entertainment space.

Before or after your meal, you can play arcade games, try your hand at axe throwing, or relax on the spacious back patio while enjoying backyard games. The menu features classic American favorites alongside international and Cajun-inspired dishes, like crawfish mac and cheese, crawfish étouffée, and a flavorful pollo chuco plate from Honduras.

Must order: Bang Bang Shrimp, Cajun Chicken Pasta (add crawfish), and your choice of Chicken Wings.

Killeen’s BBQ

Our meat plates!

Calling all Texas BBQ lovers. You can’t come to Pearland without stopping by Killen’s BBQ. Their legendary 1-pound beef rib is perfectly seasoned, slow-smoked, and so tender it practically falls off the bone.

Other must-try favorites you cannot miss are the flavorful pork belly burnt ends, melt-in-your-mouth brisket, and smoky sausage. Pair your meat plates with classic Southern sides and desserts like creamy mac and cheese, brisket-studded baked beans, creamed corn, and their famous bread pudding for the ultimate BBQ experience.

Now, as a Texan, I’ll be the first to say good brisket doesn’t need sauce, but Killen’s Coffee BBQ Sauce is so tasty that I’m happily making an exception. Drizzle a little on your meats, and it will completely elevate the flavor!

Must order: Beef Ribs, Pork Belly Burnt Ends, Mac n Cheese, Bread Pudding, and a bottle of Coffee BBQ Sauce to go.

Jimmy Changas

Mexican cuisine, margaritas, and a playground? Why aren’t there more restaurants like Jimmy Changas?! This vibrant Tex-Mex spot has quickly become one of my favorite places to eat in the state.

With its bright, colorful décor and freshly made tortillas, Jimmy Changas delivers both style and flavor. The menu balances traditional favorites with creative signature dishes like Tex-Mex Eggrolls, making it a hit for the whole family.

While you wait for your meal, kids can play on the playground, watch tortillas being made, and even shape tortilla dough like Play-Doh right at the table—all of which kept my kids happily entertained!

Must order: Tex-Mex Eggrolls, Pastor Bowl, The Bad Daddy Chimi, and a Mangonada Margarita.

Pearland proves that you don’t have to go far for a fun family weekend getaway. With outdoor adventures, cultural landmarks, playful shopping stops, and plenty of delicious food, it’s a city worth exploring in Texas—and I hope I’ve inspired you to see it for yourself!
