The Best Travel Pillow For Traveling Couples – The PearPillow

The Best Travel Pillow For Traveling Couples – The PearPillow

We love to travel because we enjoy new adventures, but getting to our next destination is not always easy. One of us (Adam), always has to sit in the middle and whether it is a two hour flight or a 10 hour flight, falling asleep and getting comfortable is never easy. We have tried several different airplane neck pillows, sleeping on each others shoulders, using blankets between the window and our head – nothing ever seems to work…until now.

Meet the PearPillow made for traveling couples.

It may be a travel pillow produced for couples, but we have found it to be useful for solo travelers as well. The PearPillow is quite versatile, comfortable and easy to travel with. We wouldn’t say it’s the perfect travel pillow, but it’s the best one we have come across so far. Let us break down why we enjoy using the PearPillow and maybe by the end of this post, you will have bought yourself one for your next trip!

Full disclaimer – we received this PearPillow for a review post, but our opinions are non biased and our own. Our post also contains an affiliate link. When you click on the link you will have the option to purchase a product at no extra cost to you and in doing so. We want to thank you for following and supporting us on all of our adventures.

About the PearPillow

The PearPillow is created by Colleen Smith, an avid traveler and previous flight attendant. During her time as a flight attendant she saw the struggle of travelers finding the perfect position to get comfortable. She noticed that a lot of traveling couples would try sleeping on each other’s shoulders with a sweater in-between them to help with comfort – we don’t know about you, but we are guilty of this. With all of Colleen’s experience traveling, both professionally and leisurely, she came up with a travel pillow to solve traveling couple problems –  the PearPillow.

How it Feels

The PearPillow definitely has some firmness, but it has the perfect bounce back which allows your head to sink into the pillow ever so slightly. It is by far the most comfortable travel pillow – if it was the size of a regular bed pillow, we would probably use it to sleep on. With that being said, because it is such a comfortable pillow, we have found many ways to use it during our travels (more on this topic further in the post).

The Design and Material

The PearPillow comes in one size and color, but luckily the color is cute! It is a soft lime green that pairs perfectly with its pear shape (no pun intended). The pillow cover is made with breathable, hypoallergenic material that can be removed to allow travelers to wash it in their washing machine. The pillow cover does not deteriorate through washing, it remains soft throughout a lifetime.

The Travel Pillow that Keeps Giving

The PearPillow is advertised to be used the way it is shaped, but we found that it can be used a lot more than just its shape. Here are a few ways both couple and solo travelers can utilize the PearPillow.

The best way to use it with your partner is as advertised, and that is by utilizing the pear shape. The shape is almost universal for everyone. A couple with a big height difference may have trouble, but for us (5’7” and 6’2″), we find the shape to fit our needs pretty well. The pear shape is quite genius – our heads fit perfectly on the curve leading to the top. When you lean into the pillow, the shoulder presses up against the lower part of the pillow and keeps the pillow in place.

Sometimes the pillow shape is too much for Adam’s neck and he starts to get a little kink because he is taller, so we will turn the PearPillow on its side and use it between us. The pillow is thick enough to still allow both of us to lean against it and find a comfortable spot.

It is such a comfortable pillow that we use it as a regular pillow by placing it behind our head. The thickness of the pillow allows our neck to adjust into the perfect position and because of the width it works great when our neck may fall to either side.

If you love a window seat, then using the PearPillow against the window is the best! As we have said, the pillow is very comfortable and placing the pillow between the seat and window is actually our favorite way to use it. It fits like a glove, all nice and snug, to allow for some shut eye.

Easy to Travel

The PearPillow comes with a small strap at the end, making it very easy to travel with. You can either carry the pillow with your arm through the strap like a purse or place the strap through your suitcase handle.

What If One Person Does Not Want To Sleep?

When we first advertised the PearPillow, a few followers asked how can the pillow be used if the one partner wants to sleep, but the other one does not. We found that we were able to get the best of both worlds. One of us would be sleeping, while the other would be playing sudoku. The only negative during this scenario is the person awake must be careful with their movements. Sometimes Adam would move to grab something under the seat in front of him, while keeping the PearPillow in its position so I, Christina, could still sleep in my comfortable position. It was not always easy, but it is definitely doable.

Perfect Travel Pillow for Road Trips

As we mentioned before, the PearPillow is as comfortable as a pillow we would use for the bed, so having it for road trips is amazing. We can easily recline our seats and use the pillow under our head or wedged between the car door and/or window to find the perfect sleeping position. We tend to go on a lot of road trips, so the PearPillow is great because of its size, versatility and comfort. We imagine it is good for train rides too.

The Best Travel Pillow, but Not Perfect

Very rarely do we find a product that is absolutely perfect and finding a perfect travel pillow is almost unheard of. So while the PearPillow has plenty of strengths, it also has some weaknesses.

It does take a little awhile to find that perfect sweet spot and once we finally find it, about an hour (give or take) afterwards, we start to get kinks in our neck. Obviously everyone wants a good travel pillow that allows for a  good nights sleep without their neck hurting, but we find the kink problem with our neck pillows too. In addition, when we start to get a kink in our neck from using it in-between each other, one of us will have to suffer not having a pillow, while the other uses it against the window.

Where to Buy the PearPillow

The PearPillow can be found through their official website or Amazon. Through the website, the PearPillow can be shipped throughout USA and Canada. Not only is the PearPillow comfortable, convenient and versatile, but it is also budget friendly! Two travelers can receive a travel pillow for the price of one with the PearPillow – priced on their website for only $31.99.

So stop buying the neck pillow…

And buy yourself a PearPillow!

That looks like a great invention! I'd use it with my kids as well as alone. We'll have to look for one!

I would definitely make sure that two people of roughly the same height use it so that the other person isn't having to strain their neck to much.

I share the same sentiment; I find it uncomfortable to sleep especially during long flights. The pear pillow might just do the trick, not too big and looks very comfy.

It has worked for us on all of our flights and even bus trips so far. It is a great alternative to the neck pillow.

Pretty cool idea by that ex-hostess! Would be a little difficult though if one person didn't want to sleep though. They would need to be careful with their movements as you say. Either that or just the pear pillow as an ice-breaker with a stranger! :)

Ya we had that concern as well because sometimes my husband wouldn't want to sleep and now he can't move at all or I'll get cranky haha. It would definitely be a great ice breaker!
