Limoncello Spritz – A Refreshing Cocktail from the Amalfi Coast

Limoncello Spritz – A Refreshing Cocktail from the Amalfi Coast

Step aside Aperol Spritz, there is a new kid on the block – a refreshing Limoncello Spritz!

A Limoncello Spritz is the perfect cocktail that has some subtle sweetness with a bubbly zing of citrus. You can enjoy this cocktail during a hot summer day to cool down or simply any day of the year because it’s just that darn good.

The inspiration for my Limoncello Spritz comes from my trip to the Amalfi Coast in Italy. We had this amazing Italian cocktail on the beach and we loved it so much, I took a picture of the menu so that I could one day recreate it.

This recipe is very easy to make and has only three simple ingredients. Within minutes, you can be kicking back and relaxing with this delicious cocktail.

Enjoying Limoncello Spritz on the Amalfi Coast

I remember this memory like it was yesterday. It was a simple afternoon, but one that I will remember forever. My family and I were exploring the Amalfi Coast during our Mediterranean cruise.

The Amalfi Coast is known for its lemons and limoncello made from the coast’s large and juicy lemons. So after a beautiful drive along the Amalfi Coast, we stopped at a restaurant on the beach to get our taste of lemons.

Of course, the menu was full of lemon inspired drinks. From limoncello to lemon beer, limoncello spritz, and more. Guess what? We ordered them all and LOVED everything!

Though everything was delicious, the limoncello spritz was a family favorite. It was such a light and refreshing cocktail during that hot summer afternoon.

This simple day is very special to me that no amount of words will truly articulate my feelings for it. It could have been the alcoholic-lemon beverages, the ocean breeze, or the gorgeous views, but it was more about my dad.

My dad is 100% Italian and his parents migrated from Italy. So I felt more in touch with his side of the family. Moreover, this was the first time I truly saw my dad in his element.

At the restaurant, he was the most relaxed I had ever seen. We were taking limoncello shots, drinking all sorts of lemon drinks, sharing stories, and eating delicious cuisine. It was the perfect day.

What is a Limoncello Spritz?

A Limoncello Spritz is an Italian cocktail that is similar to an Aperol Spritz but with a lemony twist! It is made with two main ingredients – limoncello and Prosecco. Moreover, a spritz is a cocktail made with Prosecco, a bitter liqueur such as Aperol or Campari, and sparkling water.

You might be wondering why I do not mention sparkling water in the ingredients of a Limoncello Spritz. That is because my recipe is inspired by the exact Limoncello Spritz I had on the Amalfi Coast. The restaurant menu listed only these three ingredients – limoncello, Prosecco, and sorbet.

Other recipes do include sparkling water. However, in addition to this being authentic to my experience in Italy, I think there is enough bubbly carbonation in the Prosecco that sparkling water is not necessary.
