The Best Things To See, Eat And Drink In Green Bay

Adam and I never thought we would ever find ourselves in Green Bay, Wisconsin. After all, I am a Cowboy fan – Go Cowboys! Nevertheless, we traveled to Green Bay, not for the Packers, but for my cousin’s wedding. We are thankful they had their wedding in Green Bay because we found Green Bay to be a lot of fun! There is a beautiful botanical garden, a small amusement park near the bay, a lot of cheese to eat, even more beer to drink and of course, the Green Bay Packers. So without further ado, enjoy our post of the things to see, eat and drink in Green Bay!

Bay Beach Amusement Park

The park has been opened since in 1892 and this past summer it celebrated its 125th anniversary! Needless to say, this park has been running successfully to families and tourists of Green Bay for 125 years.

This is definitely a budget and family-friendly place to go in Green Bay.  Have you ever been to an amusement park where the rides cost only 25 cents?!?!?! Yes everyone, the rides start at 25 cents and reach to a max of one dollar. There are a total of 22 rides, including the kid ones. You can go on every singe ride for a total of $10.25!!!

Adam and I went to the amusement park with Shelby (my sister and editor of the blog), and between the three of us we spent a total of $4 to go on two rides. All three of us went on the most popular ride and Elvis’ favorite, the Zippin Pippin. It is a wooden roller coaster that goes 2,500 feet high, which gives you great views of the bay. Like most wooden roller coasters, it is rickety on the turns, but a lot of fun.

Shelby and I also went on the Scat for 50 cents each and basically lost our feeling of gravity – another fun ride.

Don’t forget to enjoy the scenery around the amusement park. The bay is beautiful!

Green Bay Packers Stadium

Going to Green Bay and not seeing Lambeau Field is like going to Paris and not seeing the Eiffel Tower. So, even as Cowboy fans, we did the tour of Lambeau Field and were surprisingly and highly impressed. If you miss the opportunity to watch a Packers home game at Lambeau Field, do not fret, guests can still get an experience of the stadium through the tours. There are four different tours to choose from: Classic, Champions, Legendary and Alumni. They all vary in duration time, price and what you see, but they ALL let you go through the tunnel and onto the track of the field. Not all tours are available to purchase online, many are reserved for in-person sales only, so our advice is to call in advance. We called beforehand and they were very helpful in providing us with the great information to make our experience unforgettable.

The family opted to do the Classic Tour and it was perfect for all of us in terms of price, time and sightseeing. The tour was around an hour long and cost $15 for adults, (see link below for the rest of the prices depending on age). The tour included information and stories of the incredible history of the Green Bay Packers. Though the guides give the information fast, it was enough knowledge to learn something new. One of the highlights of the tour were going inside one of the suites and sitting in the chairs to get the feeling of the “suite life” of watching the Green Bay Packers.

The best part of the tour was experiencing the same thing the players of Green Bay have for every home game, walking down the players tunnel. To enhance our experience and make us feel like we were about to enter a crowded stadium the tunnel was playing sounds of cheering fans and music. We must admit it felt pretty real.

Last, but definitely not least we were standing ground level on the track of Lambeau Field. It truly is an amazing stadium. The guides were kind to take everyones picture and give us enough quality time on the field.

Everyone can experience this tour, but can everyone experience it with a Green Bay cheerleader alum? My cousin, Angela, is the only female cheerleader to ever cheer for the Green Bay Packers for five years! Angela and her newly wed husband, Josh were amongst our family group and they did a stunt for old times sake. It was pretty awesome for all of us to see Angela do her thing at Lambeau Field. Go Angela Go!

Don’t forget to go to their gift store – it is gigantic!!! They have everything Packers related you could have think of. Most importantly, they have cheeseheads!

Green Bay Botanical Garden

The wedding of Angela and Josh was held at the magical Botanical Garden. We say magical because it truly was a magical garden – it had a hobbit house bathroom!!! Say what!?!?

The flowers and plants within the garden were beautiful and abundant. We felt like we had escaped Green Bay entirely and were in another world. There were paved and gravel paths throughout the garden with small green tunnel walkways that were great for photos.

We can see why Angela and Josh picked the Green Bay Botanical Garden as their wedding venue because it was absolutely beautiful and the perfect place to promise their love to each other. The wooden gazebo was charming and full of love with the two of them standing under it. The Botanical Garden also has a huge ballroom for wedding receptions that has glass walls for guests to still see the lovely garden.  Whether you are coming to see the flowers and gazebos or a wedding, the Green Bay Botanical Garden is worth a visit.

Places to Eat and Drink

There are several places to find your fair share of cheese and beer, but here are two notable places we highly recommend.

Hinterland Brewery

Hinterland Brewery is a craft brewery and restaurant, right across the street from Lambeau Field, needless to say, it is a very busy restaurant. Guests can experience a brewery on every Saturday starting at noon, 1pm, 2pm, and 3pm for ten dollars. The tours are limited and are based on first-come, first-served basis. They also include a souvenir glass and a beer.

Hinterland has several different craft beers to choose from, but the table favorite was the Cherry Wheat (seasonal). Restaurant tip – every person receives two small tastings of beers, which means our table had 18 beer tastings total!

Not only does Hinterland provide Green Bay with the finest beers, but they also have excellent culinary creations. The restaurant serves contemporary American cuisine with a twist. The menu is created by the chefs everyday based on the availability of fresh produce, meat, and seafood sourced from local  and/or sustainable farmers. A lot of menu items feature their crafted beer within the dishes, for example, I had the cherry wheat braised pork sandwich paired with my cherry wheat beer. It was delicious! When in Wisconsin, you can never get enough cheese curds, so we ordered a basketful and they were the best ones we had during our entire trip! Do not miss out on these scrumptious balls of fried cheese!

Titletown Brewery

Titletown Brewery is located in, you guessed it, the Titletown District of Green Bay. Titletown Brewery is an unique brewery that started in 1996 in the vacated Chicago & Northwestern Railroad Depot. Now after 21 years (the legal drinking age may we add), it stands tall as a historical building bringing food and beer to people rather than trains. The restaurant is helmed by Executive Chef Jeffrey Schermetzler who creates daily dishes in addition to the menu. We could not get enough of Wisconsin’s cheese when we had dinner here and thank goodness their menu included soooo many cheese items. We had an amazing cheese fondue and lobster mac n cheese. Their cheese has a secret touch of their beer – don’t leave the restaurant without ordering it, it is delicious! They also have a giant Oktoberfest pretzel served with condiments, but we dunked the pretzel in our fondue, you seriously have to order the fondue. In terms of beer, you of course can never go wrong with their “core brews”, three of the five are award winners, but we chose their light “400” Honey Ale. While others at the table drank the gold medalist, Boathouse Pilsner.

Across from the railroad depot is Titletown Brewery’s facility, which produces some of Wisconsin’s award wining beer. Tours are available every Saturday starting at 1pm and continue every hour until 6pm. Tours are $10 (21 and older) and includes four 6 oz. pours and a souvenir pint glass. Guests under 21 are free and include one root beer. Designated drivers (21 and over) only pay $5 and receive three root beer fills and a souvenir pint glass. Needless to say, Titletown Brewery has it all, brewery tours, history, beer, food and cheese – yes please!

Bar Hopping on Washington Street

There are six bars to hit up in Downtown Green Bay on Washington Street. The two best parts, you can walk to all of the bars in less than five minutes and the drinks are cheap!!! Even the hand crafted cocktails at The Libertine were under eight dollars – we have never been able to find that in Las Vegas, Dallas or D.C.. There are other notable bars near Washington Street, but we found the best ones to be on Green Bay’s Washington Street “strip”.

bar hopping with the bride!

The three bars that we recommend are all different and unique: Ned Kellys, The Libertine and Stir Ups (click each bar to get to their website).

Ned Kellys has over 100 craft beers on tap and supposedly the only bar in Green Bay that has the game, Hammerschlagen. What is Hammerschlagen you ask? It is a ridiculously stupid drinking game waiting for a visit to the ER, but it’s super fun, so may the odds be ever in your favor. The game was created in Minnesota and brought into Wisconsin, so you will see this game frequently in these states. Players take a hammer and try to strike the nail into the log. First person to successfully get their nail below the surface of the log wins. So, if you want to try your hand at this game head to Ned Kellys!

Though Green Bay is known for their beer, The Libertine is a hand crafted cocktail bar that is proud to serve their cocktails using only the best ingredients and proper tools for the best experience in town. Creating cocktails is not a job, but an art to the team behind The Libertine and it truly shows because their drinks are amazing!!! Though you cannot go wrong with their always changing menu, we enjoyed Perfume and Lace. We would have ordered another drink, but hey we were bar hopping.

Stir Ups was the most popular bar of them all. As the name perceives, it is Green Bay’s hottest country bar and is the most club like bar on Washington Street. Inside are two rooms with at least two bars, some arcade games and a dance floor. Though it is a country bar, they do play some popular dance-hip hop songs just like every other country bar. They are also known for pouring shots into their guests mouths, needless to say it is a fun bar.

Just some final thoughts from the state of Wisconsin, “there is plenty of beer to go around, just remember though… DRINK WISCONSIBLY!!!”
