We Received The Blogger Recognition Award!
Our Sweet Adventures has received another award, The Blogger Recognition Award! We started blogging because we wanted to share our stories and experiences to our friends, family and other travelers alike. Little did we know that within six months our blog would be on its way to being successful. Like everything else in life, it came with a lot of hard work – blogging is definetly not an easy task as some may think, so receiving this blog by another successful blogger is very rewarding to us.
So What Is the Blogger Recognition Award?
The Blogger Recognition Award is an online award given to bloggers by other bloggers. It was created to let the readers learn a little bit more about the bloggers who they enjoy following – in this case, us. Our audience reads about our adventures, tips, guides and more, but with this award it gives readers insight as to why or how we started blogging. The other half of the award is providing some advice we have to other bloggers.
We always enjoy receiving awards not because they are awards, but because the awards always have personal touches for our readers to get to know us more. It also allows us to connect with other bloggers and grow in the community. Receiving the Blogger Recognition Award is also very rewarding because it comes from another successful blogger who finds that we are one to be recognized by the blogging community. We still have a lot to learn, but it is an honor to be recognized by the blogging community as we continue on this journey.
How Does It Work?
- Publicly thank your Blogger Recognition Award presenter on your blog. Try to include a little promotion for the person who nominated you. They will thank you for it and those who you nominate are more inclined to help you out as well. We are recognizing each other after all.
- Display the Blogger Recognition Award on your blog by including it in your post and/or display it using a “widget” or”gadget” so everybody knows you are one to be recognized.
- Give a brief story of why you blog and how you got started.
- Give two pieces of advice to other bloggers.
- Nominate 10 other amazing bloggers you want to give this award to.
- Contact or comment on each nominated blog/blogger and let them know you have nominated them for the award by providing the link to the post you created.
- Congratulate yourself because you just received an award and are spreading more good vibes to other rewarding bloggers.
A Little Info About Our Friends Who Nominated Us
We were nominated by Sarah and her husband, Christopher, of The Wanderlust Vegans. We are honored to receive this award by not just a blogger, but by another travel-food-loving couple. We have a great appreciation to The Wanderlust Vegans because they have found their passion and pursue it everyday. They are a minimalistic duo who have found a way to travel for a living as they become next level vegans. They were able to live in the United Kingdom for two years allowing them travel throughout Europe as often as they pleased. Now they are living in British Columbia making their way through Canada. On their website you can find great stories about their travels as well as vegan options to several different cities and travel tips. Thank you again Wanderlust Vegans – you guys are awesome!
Our Blogger Recognition Award Video
Making a video is not part of receiving this award, but every time we have received an award we like to answer our questions with a video. We receive these awards because other bloggers appreciate and enjoy our blog. Words can only go so far, therefore, we would like our readers and followers to get more of a glimpse into Our Sweet Adventures by actually seeing and hearing us. So without further ado…
Our Story of Why and How We Started Blogging
Christina first started blogging in 2014 for her dessert blog, Dessert Tour. She wanted the pastry field of pastry chefs, bakers, chocolatiers and more to receive additional exposure. It began by posting pictures on Facebook and she would receive a lot of great feedback. That is when she decided to create the blog for her friends on Facebook to see and learn more about the pictures of desserts she was indulging. The blog, Dessert Tour continued for a year and a half, but started to trickle down when we were planning our trip to Europe. Thus, bringing us to where we are today. While we were hiking in Zermatt, Switzerland the same realization with posting our desserts on Facebook hit us. People were enjoying our everyday posts of where we were and what we were exploring in Europe. All of our ideas typically come when we are in our most relaxed state, either on the beach or hiking. So this is how the idea to merge our dessert blog into a travel and food blog was created – hiking the 5 seenwag in Zermatt. Therefore, in early October of 2016 when we were back in the United States we created Our Sweet Adventures!
We blog because we really enjoy sharing our stories to our family, friends and now followers. We were shown a lot of kindness from our hosts during our travels in Europe and are using our blog to pass along that same kindness, so that others may experience incredible adventures as we have, learning from both our favorite moments and our worst mistakes. We work harder than ever to create this website to be better everyday, to provide the best information and tips we have to our readers.
Our Two (Three) Pieces of Advice
We are always asking for advice from others, so our best advice is to reach out to fellow bloggers. Travel blogging is an awesome community and there are plenty of people willing to help out because more than likely they have been in your shoes. We have asked so many people for help in our blog, we would lose count. Blogging is not easy, but luckily there are a lot of helpful bloggers and forums on the internet to help (and mostly for free). You will also be surprised by how many good people there are in the world who would be more than happy to take time out of their day and help.
Our second piece of advice is to join some of the amazing travel blogging, social media, Facebook groups. We have joined a handful of groups that have helped us grow in the blogging community – it is why we received this award. With that being said, we want to acknowledge the group we participate the most in, Real Travel Blog Promotion & Interaction. This group has a lot of threads to promote engagement for a bloggers website such as, blog comment exchanges, social media shares and more. We love this group so much that we have gained friends through it. One friend lives in the D.C. area and so we get to hang out with her a lot, while our other friends live in St. Louis, but will be making their way to D.C. this summer. So, as you can see joining a good Facebook group can bring a lot of great outcomes for your blog.
We actually have a third piece of advice because it is very relevant to us right now. If blogging is something serious for you we recommend starting out by self-hosting your website. If you have a blog already and want to grow more then switch over to self-hosting right now! Our biggest regret is not taking the risk in the beginning of our blogging career because now that we are self-hosted and moving a step forward it feels like a step back with the huge self-hosting learning curve.
