D.O.C.G. Enoteca (Cosmopolitan), Las Vegas, NV
This is a short post because Adam took me to D.O.C.G. Enoteca for my birthday dinner and of course we ended our night with something sweet. D.O.C.G. Enoteca is a causal Italian restaurant located inside the Cosmopolitan Hotel & Casino and is a sister restaurant of the fine dining, Scarpetta. Both restaurants are helmed by famous chef, Scott Conant. D.O.C.G. stands for Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita, which is the highest level of origin and authentication for Italian wine, (the next time you shop for Italian wine look for the D.O.C.G. label and thats when you know its good stuff!) Despite the restaurant’s “high standard” name, the restaurant itself was small, dimly lit, quaint with a rustic, causal atmosphere with fun Italian signs along the exposed brick and wooden walls. With that being said do not let the casualness fool you because the entrees are delicious and could easily be served next door at their fine dining sister restaurant.
I know this is a blog that talks about dessert, but I cannot go without mentioning how great the pasta dishes were. There were so many dishes that sounded delicious that our server had to ask us three times if we were ready to order….we finally decided on two entrees, Pici and Cavatelli. The pastas are made fresh daily in house and were two of the best pasta dishes I have ever had.
Salted Caramel Budino with Pretzel Toffee
After we finished our entrees, we asked our server for her suggestion of their signature dessert. She informed us that their Salted Caramel Budino has won several best dessert awards – I am not surprised because I LOVED IT!!! I would love to come back to D.O.C.G. Enoteca and have this dessert again as well as try some of their other desserts. If their desserts are all this amazing, I may need to apply for a job here and then buy bigger pants haha. A budino is an Italian dessert that translates to pudding or custard. A bunions is a staple at Italian restaurants and if you’re a fan of custards or creme brûlées, I highly suggest you try a budino. This dessert is a perfect balance of salty and sweet. The bottom layer is a vanilla pudding with a layer of the salted caramel sauce and a quenelle of whipped cream with a sprinkle of salt on top. Each layer by itself is good but when you get a spoonful of it all together, it is magical! Accompanying the glass is a pretzel toffee that adds a crunch of texture to the smooth budino. With all the sweet components combined, it sings like an orchestra.
